about

GurdyBird explains a world she discovers whilst running way from the watchmen after failing to repay a debt. Based upon the theme of The World Turned Upside Down and a song by Thomas Ravenscroft, she is accompanied by the Mediaeval Biaetches in this tospy-turvy world

lyrics

On the run, my duff debenture,
Was the start of this adventure,
On a gallivant to lose the law.
To gain me time on this great search,
I took a shortcut to the church
And down an alleyway not seen before.
A light flared up and sucked me in,
The land I knew began to spin,
The sun rose high beneath the ground,
The World had turned upside-down!

Chorus:
Tomorrow the fox will come to town,
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep,
Tomorrow the fox will come to town,
Oh keep you all well there.
I must desire you neighbours all
To hallo the fox out of the hall,
And cry as loud as you can call,
Woof, Woof, Woof, Woof, Woof!

The cockerels vied their finest men,
The bishops age was barely ten,
The parson: skilled in Uptails All and dice.
Though, question not the butchers shop
Nor what on earth could yield those chops,
Upon the floor were mantraps laid by mice.
And well dressed apes controlled the banks,
The children punished elders' pranks,
The lawyers practiced every kind of vice.
The farmers slept inside the stable,
Oxen feasted at the table,
Kings wore rags and paupers: crowns!
The world had turned upside-down!

Chorus

And fallen out of a bordello
Was this topsy-turvy fellow:
He wore boots as gloves and gloves as boots!
He sported breeches as a shirt,
His cravat dangled in the dirt,
This seemed the standard way of wearing suits.
Across the way astride some goats,
All dressed in striking bright red coats,
With guns and horns they started on their route.
These foxes kept the vast amount
Of nuisance humans to low count,
And chased the pests through field and town,
The world had turned upside-down!
